I can't sync my iCal calendar at all in 2008. I have sync turned in preferences. It does not show me any options to choose which calendar to sync. Same on my Macbook. The address book does sync even though that doesn't show up to.
I have tried creating a new identity and I get the same thing.
At the moment this is unusable.
Have you used Sync Services before (in Entourage 2004)? Entourage has a
rather idiosyncratic approach to calendar synching; if Sync Services is
turned on, a new calendar is created in iCal, called "Entourage". Events
created in Entourage show up in that calendar, and if you create events
in iCal, they need to be in that calendar as well or else they won't
show up in Entourage. If you want to get items from iCal into Entourage,
you now know what to do: right-click them and put them into the
"Entourage" calendar. Many users would prefer if they could set up
Entourage to synch categories to iCal calendars; if that sounds like
what you would like to have as well, click on Send Feedback on Entourage
inside Entourage's help menu to let Microsoft know.

Thanks Michael - I worked that out - but not as quickly as you did. It's really a pain - I gave up on Entourage 2004 because of the category syncing issues. And they're still here. Great shame really... the program feels a lot snappier. Will give feedfback as you suggest... I think a lot of people are going to be baffled by this one.
The situation is not that easy, actually. Entourage does not support
multiple calendars (except Exchange calendars), but it uses categories;
iCal, on the other hand, handles multiple calendars, but does not use
categories. Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages, but
ultimately, there is a paradigm shift that needs to be made when
transitioning from one app to the other. I'm sure that if we protest
loudly enough, Microsoft may consider doing what I've suggested, i.e.
syncing Entourage categories with iCal calendars.

You're right Michael - I was forgetting. For me the Microsoft categories way seems logical and the iCal way, separate calendars, seems odd. Except that I do publish one calendar and I guess you can't publish one category. But it would be nice to have the option to sync categories to calendars and I have put in a request for this.
Brent.... I gave my iPhone to my daughter because the incredibly slow data here in the UK drove me nuts. But with the Mac you simply sync the iPhone to iCal and Address Book. So, given the above, you should be able to sync Entourage to the iPhone, but I suspect you won't get categories.
PS - is it only me or does Safari not get remembered from visit to visit here, forcing you to log in every time? Shame - nice forums.
1. I used to be able to sync to my Blackberry (8700c) just fine with Entourage 2004, but upgrading to 2008 seems to have broken it. I'm now getting this error message:
"Could not lcoate [sic] the Microsoft Entourage Office Synchronization Tool."
Grr....I just called Microsoft support and was told that Entourage doesn't support the Blackberry. I know that's technically true, but what a great way to lock out a huge swath of potential users.
2. I can't get my Entourage to sync with Address Book/iCal/Notes. Colleagues have followed the same procedure (enabling the Sync Services in Address Book) just fine and it works for them. Nothing happens when I do it except that in iCal an Entourage calendar is created...but no data is passed to it. (I can look in the Console and see that absolutely nothing is happening.)
Help I just found out I have the same problem with my Blackberry. I am leaving town tomorrow and tried to sync using PocketMac and it will not sync. I cannot found Office 2004 so I can get my calendar before I go. Bummer
Michel,
Thank you for explaining that. It sounds like Entourage cannot do what I
need. Can anyone out there recommend another program that functions as a
combined client management system, calendar, and e-mail that I can also sync
between computers?
(I'm new to the whole CMS, syncing thing so don't assume that I already know
the obvious! Answers that begin with "duh!" gratefully accepted.)

I hate to say it, but Outlook is your best bet. You can run it from within
OSX if you have Parallels.
Another option is to go to a web-based product.
I'm working on developing a product that will go part way towards what you
are looking for. Will keep you posted.

I have exactly same problem, I cannot sync my BB, because:
"Could not lcoate [sic] the Microsoft Entourage Office Synchronization Tool."
I tried everything I could, I even bought Missing Sync, because I believed it will solve the problem. I was looking towards switching from Outlook 2007 + Fusion to MacOffice 2008, but I am truly disappointed with lack of sync options for BB and of course oldie, but goldie NO SUPPORT for import of *.pst files from OUTLOOK to Entourage.
What overpaid idiot decided not to include ANY importing options for OUTLOOK *.pst files? It really takes genius to figure this one out, I will still use product from Microsoft, so what is the point to piss customer, which just fork out $ 300 for mediocre software?
I just had enough of this. You can go and f... yourselves with this kind of overpriced products and support.

I believe that's an error message from PocketMac, not Entourage.
Microsoft itself does not support syncing natively to Blackberry nor
does it support PocketMac.

This problem and the inability to book resources properly will very likely
drive me away from Entourage. Microsoft had a chance to address these
problems in 2008 and did not. The problem may be more difficult that we
outsiders can understand but it seems to me that making one
calendar/category when going from entourage to iCal must be possible.
I also find it interesting that, for example, SNERDWARE is able to provide a
proper Resource booking add on to iCal but Microsoft cannot, or will not add
it to Entourage.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. I have been anxiously awaiting this update for nearly a year. I purchased it with the express expectation that I would finally be able to sync my Entourage calendar with iCal as a means of getting it synced with my iPod touch. Alas - I STILL can't get this done. I can't believe they released this update without this capability. Wake up Microsoft - we use this data on other products - don't box us in.
If you are using iCal now you should follow this routine.
1) Go to preferences and check on sync for iCal (use the merge option) close Entourage and restart it.
2) Create a calendar event in Entourage
3) Wait for it to sync with iCal (go to iCal and await its appearance).
4) Go to EVERY event in iCal that you want to go to Entourage and reclassify it as being on this new Entourage calandar.
5) Wait for them to show up on Entourage.
Let me get this straight. I can sync my iphone with entourage. I can sync my iphone with ical. I canot sync my blackberry with entourage or ical. Huh now thats not a monoploy.OfficeMac 2008 or OfficeMuck 2008
You can sync your Blackberry using either Missing Sync and/or PocketMac.

The problem is that iCal offers multiple calendars, but no categories
and Entourage offers multiple categories, but syncs only one calendar.
it clearly doesn't match up. What I ould have liekd is a preference
allowing me to map categories from Entourage to calendars in iCal.....
So far it seems that the calendar remains the weakest link in the entire Office Suite. Kind of makes the "My Day" applet kind of worthless if you can't use the calendar to do what you want. With Outlook you can now use ics files, have multiple calendars and even subscribe to calendars. I would LOVE to have that functionality in Office 2008 and with all the work that went into the upgrade thought we just might see it. I like having multiple calendars so that I can keep track of sporting events... but also turn off those calendars when I don't want my calendar to be overloaded. I would really like Microsoft to address this so I don't have to use Parallel's to accomplish what I want.
Hi there! I followed all the tips mentioned here and on the linked pages but still:
-Ical shows an entourage calender (so far so good)
-I enter an event in ical: it comes up in entourage
-the same event gets erased from ical during the next sync attepmt (eg another new event in ical a few minutes later)
AND
NO entourage events are transferred to ical, although that worked perfectly with E04.

Every time I sync my blackberry with the ical application via pocketmac it defaults the calendar to “pocketmac.” If it defaulted it to “entourage” I wouldn’t need to manually change each event. Is there a way to do this?

Doesn’t work for me, at all (no Entourage calendar shows up in iCal, nada). Are you on Leopard or Tiger?

This all sounds very disappointing and that is why I have been researching for new software to replace the whole MS office, especially Entourage. Check out Daylite 3.7 at www.marketcircle.com this solution is not cheap but it looks like it will handle all our needs (when used with Mail, iLife, iWork and iCal)
I agree with George C. I have been using Entourage for years and used its sync services. The disappointing thing is that Mactopia had the perfect opportunity to make the changes necessary for seamless synch services from iCal to Entourage and back. Some of you may ask why I want the information to go back? This is why....I have 2 macs - a desktop and a laptop. I need both to be synched together. The only way I have found for that to happen is to go through Entourage to iCal/Address Book through .Mac and then to iCal/Address Book to Entourage on the other computer. It was working pretty well,, even when I had my Treo synching with the G5 using Mark Space to do it (which is good for those of you with a pda phone). However, it was very disappointing to find quirks at times such as the sync preferences shut off by itself or after an update. Then when reactivating it I would end up with 2 or 4 or more timed the duplicate calendar events. The other bummer was that Projects could not be synched. Lastly, Entourage doesn't sync categories through iCal, so when all the info appeared on the laptop, I had a generic category-less event. So when I traveled I had to remember what it belonged to, as well as any links or projects. It sounds like entourage 2012 might be the answer.
In the meantime, I might be into Daylite by marketcircle since it uses proper synching mechanisms to make it work. Also, there is Project X, although I don't think it is as user-friendly. -Greg
I am having problems with syncing with my iPhone to Entourage 2008. I have been fine (as has my girlfrind) syncing using Entourage 2004, however with 2008, all the calender entries appear in ical (after setting up sync service) however, it if add an entry on the iphone, it shows up in ical, but does NOT get moved to Entourage. The added entry is in the 'entourage catergory'....any ideas? I have been scratching my head for the last day, wiped out my computer, went to the Apple store for help, all with no answers!!
I would really appreciate any ideas....those of you who have been able to sync, are you sure the entries added on your iphone gets moved over to entourage....i forgot to mention that i am using an exchange server (although that should not make too much of a difference)
Regards
P.S. With some more playing around i found this out, the Sync Service works perfectly with Entourage & iCal when you don't sync with the iPhone. The minute the iPhone is added into the equation then any new data in ical (bought through the iPhone) will not appear in Entourage, however anything in Entourage will appear in iCal...i am not sure if this is a bug in Office 2008 or if its from the new Apple update...1.1.3...any ideas would be really greatful!

Mike,
I, too, need two computers to sync and I'd like to use Entourage in my
business. But I need calendar reminders at home. I've had great
success matching work and home with iCal. Could you be very clear:
Can Entourage do that by .Mac or other means? I must have that
capability soon or I'll need to return to using iCal.
Has anyone been able to sycn through entourage 2008 and an iPhone....i think there is a major bug where any calender added on the iphone will not be synced on entourage. I have now tried this on 3 computers all of which have the same effect. I have no had to resort back to 2004. Please, if anyone has been able to do this, i would love to know...
Bummer that you guys didnt listen to the cries for full sync with ical. This actually has been a major voice for years.
How can you now say that we can put a request for sync with iCal with the Microsoft team? We have been doing this for 4 years. Have you missed this?
In response to other solutions out there, i recommend googles calendar if you dont mind them evesdropping on headlines or the integrated iCal with .mac it actually work pretty decent most of the time.
I have a similar problem only mine is confined to contact syncing and not calendar:
I am running Office:mac 2008. Entourage is communicating with hosted Office 2003 Server over a VPN.
My 2000 contacts are syncing perfectly with Apple's address book program and my Entourage contacts, but I have duplicated the following bug with iTunes V 7.6 and iPhone 1.1.3 a few times:
I create a small group of 50 contacts in Address Book and name it "Mobile". It syncs beautifully with iTunes, and some time late, those 50 contacts are missing from the Address Book on my iMac.
After sync: "0" on iMac, "50" on iPhone
If I attempt to synch again, the "0" on my iMac cancels out he "50" on my iPhone, so I have to turn off synchronization for that particular file.
Now, I realize that this is an Entourage discussion, but I have the feeling that my needs are akin to other users here, so please don't flame me for that.
Since iPhone does not Recognize Entourage contacts, one must use Apples Address Book SW in order to sync contacts with the iPhone, correct?
I too found that whatever is entered in iphone ends up in the Entourage calendar on ical, but not in Entourage itself. However, I found that the event eventually makes it to Entourage, but only after one or two more syncs in iTunes.
I have followed the instructions on this page but I still get the same problem where Sync Services crashes about every 2 seconds and gives me this error:

Turn it off.
My bet though is that one of the elements you are trying to sync is
corrupted.
You might want to see in the Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console)
to see if anything pops-up,
Similar problems to others syncing with Entourage 2008 ... if I add an event into a Palm Treo it syncs to iCal in a calendar called Unfiled. If I remember to go into iCal and change that new event from the Unfiled to the Entourage calendar (sort of defeats the purpose of adding an even into the Palm in the first place) that event will not sync back to Entourage.
Sync features are in my opinion THE major gap in Entourage 2008.

It seems to me that more than a few people are having problems and are not happy with the sync capabilities attached to Entourage2008. Strange that the MacBU doesn’t seem to respond to these complaints nor do they promise to do something about them.

I'm working on the assumption that MS doesn't plan to do anything. That
their solution is to use sync services. Period. Partly based on their not
saying anything except to tell callers to use sync services and partly
because there doesn't seem to have been an attempt to put a conduit in the
2008 build.

I'm having a terrible time synching with Mac Office 2004 (IMAC G-5)/Leopard
10.5.1....everytime I try to synch, it tells me there are 6509
conflicts...and they are almost all the same...Holidays...Battle of the
Boyne// Israeli holidays, etc...stuff that I never use. Then when I spend an
hour resolving conflicts...they turn up the next time. What to do? Also
since I got Leopard, my Pocket Mac won't work with my Blackberry, and
Missing Synch is very erratic and hangs up too.
I'm disappointed with this aspect of Leopard.

Hal, I hadn't had any sync problems with Leopard until I got Office 2008.
I've finally just turned off syncing my calendar. I don't really need it on
my Palm. It's the contact info I really need to have on the pda.

That's a very different issue. Your SyncService database (the one the
System manages) is most probably corrupted and it might be time to
decide to reset it (tedious, dagerous - since you delete some data - but
probably the only way around),
> I'm working on the assumption that MS doesn't plan to do anything. That

Well, that woudl be fine with me *providing* that SyncSerivce support
wasn't broken (and being to be able to do everything I'd need to like
syncing categories and contact pictures would be a plus :-> )
I'm trying to sync my contact and calendar information between two Windows machines (one desktop, one laptop) and one desktop Mac and use Entourage 2008 on my Mac to access it all.
I'm using Plaxo to sync my Windows Outlook with my Mac and it works very well BUT it only syncs with Mac's Address Book and iCal. So, I thought I'd use Entourage's sync service to get the information into Entourage.
When you set up sync services within Entourage, it creates an Entourage folder in iCal. Plaxo also automatically sets up a calendar in iCal named "Calendar". (pretty original, eh?) The problem is, within iCal, the Entourage calendar doesn't sync with my (Outlook) Calendar. Because the two calendars don't sync, the sync to Entourage doesn't pick up the changes from Plaxo. If I try doing what was recommended (right clicking on events and making them an Entourage event) then I get duplicates in my Plaxo calendar, which during the next sync, results in duplicates in iCal.
Maybe I'm going about this all wrong. Any suggestions?
SyncServices broke, now I lost my calenders and tasks!!!!
I figured out that by changing the category on my iCal calenders to Entourage I could sync both ways - so I did this with all my future events (for about a month in advance).
This morning I'm happily working away at my Mac when I get an error message saying the SyncServices is quitting due to some problem or another. Then BINGO all my calenders and tasks disappear!
How can such a thing happen? What's next, contacts and emails? Does anyone know of a way to avoid using syncservices or should I just give MS the flick altogether? I paid $300 for the upgrade - boy do I feel ripped off!

For anyone trying to do this, I figured it out. It ended up being a synchronization manager setting in Plaxo. Basically, the only calendar I have on iCal is Entourage. On each Windows machine, I set the Plaxo setting to sync the Entourage folder on Plaxo with my (Outlook) Calendar.
I have decided to go completely the other way and use Entourage purely as a conduit into iCal. I'll explain...
I live multiple lives as do most of you. I use Entourage to stay in contact with my business' Exchange servers anywhere in the world, and iCal to organise my moonlighting business and my personal life. I use iCal to bring them all together into one concise calender, not Entourage.
My iCal calenders are then published between a number of different macs, laptop, home imac, and my powermac. The information that therefore ports from Exchange into Entourage is broadcast to all of my iCal calenders on all of my macs. I only use iCal on my imac and powermac, and have to use both Entourage and iCal simultaneously on my laptop to maintain the conduit to the Exchange server.
This is not the most optimal solution. The product that we all paid good money for is incapable of doing the simplest sync task appropriately, but it is a work around that seems to be working well for me in the intrum ; )
How long is it going to take for Microsoft to realize that they cannot continue to point the finger at other developers, products, and people for their own lack of vision. We do not live in a one software application world. We have to be able to move between multiple applications simultaneously, and with complete confidence that they are going to work without error.
No matter what I do, following everything that I have seen above, I cannot get Entourage 2008 and iCal to sync. It syncs with Address book just fine but not with iCal. Does not create the Entourage group, does not sync tasks or calendars........please help

I have iCal set up as advised with an Entourage folder, and all my iCal events are under that Entourage folder.
I am waiting in vain for these events to show up in Entourage - despite having the sync option ticked with the merge function selected.
I used to simply use Entourage, but was forced to migrate data to the iCal so my blackberry would sync. I now can't get the data to replicarte back to Entourage (which i need to keep using due to work).
Grrrrr ! We don't pay good money for this sort of rubbish.
All the people venting their anger here are justified - Microsoft need to get it together. I am in media, and am advising all the online software media review publications I work with of these issues with Mac Office 2008, so that their reviews can advise users not to purchase until they are resolved.

ENtourage will sync to an ENtourage calendar in iCal. DOn;t expect to
see your categories there.
Tasks will not sync either.

First, I've spent the last 8 hours trying to get sync to work with calendars. It has all the bugs noted above, where things start to like right, then fail. I've tried all the things noted here, though by trial and error, not because I came here first. I wish I had. I would have not purchased the upgrade. I too feel taken. More important, I feel very strongly that for a support person to just blurt out "blame the other guy," it only proves it was a mistake to purchase the upgrade. The support won't be there. Only continued frustrations on the user side.
Playing with this for the last 8 hours also showed me that there are a ton of other features missing/taken away from the older product.

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE ABOVE.
I moved from Entourage a few years back for the same reasons, and the need to sync to multiple machines, and to publish so people that needed to could see it. I figured out back then that there was no import at all for calendar items in the 2004 version. Today while becoming totally frustrated with the new version, I was completely dumbfounded to find that absolutely nothing had been changed with the import capabilities (read: severe limitations).
The sad thing is calendar items are an open (and well used) industry standard... you know... those things that Microsoft refuses to acknowledge/embrace/use properly if they aren't in control of them.
Harsh? I suppose, but no more so than to read here, that all the issues lie with the company that embraces open standards versus the one that does not.
Unfortunately after many $$$ and a lot of time, I too have come un-stuck with
what seems to be a very simple problem without a solution.
I totally agree with what has been said above - if there is a solution to the
following I would really like to know.
Leopard 10.5.1
Microsoft Mac 2008: Entourage,
Entourage "MY DAY"
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
Mark Space Missing Sync, for
Microsoft Windows Mobile v6.0.
MS Mac Entourage 2008; Address Book, Calender, Tasks, CATEGORIES, COLOURS,
and the New MY DAY look fantastic in the new MS Mac Entourage 2008 when
operational, but they are all absolutely useless if they cannot sync as you
see them with your MS Windows Mobile 6.
I have been having the same problems as everyone above with 5000 conflicts. I have 5 copies of every event in Entourage and 3 copies of every event in my Palm. I also have something where every event is set up one day in advance. For example: Independence Day is listed on July 4th and July 3rd.
Has anyone tried to get out of Entourage 2008 and reload 2004?
By the way, I have told all of my Mac using friends not to buy this product. I haven't had the opportunity to use all of the other programs in depth, but if Entourage is an example of the work, then this is going to be a long term problem
I'd swear that I've seen posts from someone with a microsoft.com email

And, I don't expect them to post. But, I sure do hope they're lurking. It
does seem to me that Entourage 2008 is a step backward in some features. It
certainly doesn't measure up to Lotus Organizer which I used for at least
ten years when I was using Windows. In that sense, at least for me,
Entourage 2008 is a big step backward.

Leopard bug:
When syncing calendars on Leopard using any sync software it's possible for
the iCal sync program ("iCalExternalSync") to get confused and stop syncing.
The primary symptom of this bug is that updated events stop appearing in
iCal, but continue to show up in other synchronized devices and
applications.
For example, if you use Spanning Sync to sync Google Calendar with iCal and
also use iTunes to sync iCal with your iPhone, events from Google Calendar
will sync to your iPhone but not to iCal. The bug is fairly rare but can
affect any user at any time. And when it does strike, it continues to
happen, making it appear that nothing is syncing to iCal at all.
This bug is more likely to happen when you've enabled the "Show Birthdays
calendar" option in your iCal preferences. If you are affected by this bug,
you may be able to solve the problem simply by disabling this option in
iCal. Note that once you do so, you'll still need to "reset info on this
computer" in the Spanning Sync pref pane in order to force events to
re-sync.
Another fix (although potentially only temporary), is to reset Apple Sync
Services:
€ Open iSync (in /Applications)
€ Select Preferences from the iSync menu
€ Click "Reset Sync History..."
€ Wait for the reset to finish
€ Try syncing again

I tried the merge option but I couldn't get a reliable two way sync
from my Palm through to Entourage and sometimes back. I find the
overwrite option Entourage overwrites iCal works fine. The problem I
have noticed since I got Entourage 08 on Jan 15 08 is that sync
services will eventually muck up after a period of use. To get it
working again involved a lot of frigging around but now I've got all
the steps down pat and know exactly what to do when this happens. But
unlike the conduit, which was reliable and fast, if it did muck up,
which was rarely it was easy to fix by doing an overwrite of all
Entourage modules to the Palm which fixed everything in sync services
and thus displayed everything correctly in iCal.

I think the concept of identities and switching identies might be
their answer in Entourage. You can have as many identities as you want
but I just have my main identity then an archival identity to archive
items that I really never look at but might want to down the line.
On a slightly different note, what are the chances that Entourage will gain the ability to at least download calendars from google? This is perhaps the one feature that I like best about ical and has been the biggest hang-up from switching entirely.
So in order to import your calender from ical to entourage you need to put all of your appointments in the "entourage" calender in ical. The easiest way to do this is to export your ical "home" file to your desktop. Then import it using ical again to your "entourage" file in ical.
I've not read the whole of this thread, so sorry if someone has already highlighted this.
I've been using a collection of useful apple scripts over the past four years which allow me to sync my calendars. originally written for Office X 2004 it still appears to work in 2008 (Phew)
I have found a solution for Exchange/iCal/Entourage 2008/iPhone sync problems and *The fix works by hitting Send/Receive in Entourage before syncing to iTunes/iPhone and having Entourage completely shut down when bringing in new calendar events from iPhone. For further explanation go to my blog post in typepad and search for blogamemnon (the name of my first new blog). The only limitation I have found is calendar events must always be deleted from Entourage or Exchange.

Somehow the recurring events I have in Entourage 2008 doubled. Just the recurring events, birthdays and holidays. And...I got a notice that another 50 needed to be resolved and synced. I can’t figure out where the duplicate recurring events came from. I just shut off Entourage syncing. This is just too much of a mess. Got it working using lepoard (latest update) and Office 2008.
Took a bit of mucking around to understand the logic (?) as I was migrating from iCal because my XP/Outlook colleagues (and better half) could not do much with my meeting invitations. Seems in hindsight my main problem was not properly reassignaing all my iCal appointments to the “entourage” calendar in iCal. It took a couple of sync’s and to settle down as I already had stuff synced to .mac but it was mostly sorting out duplicates.

I want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. I'm just starting to use Office 2008, and want to make sure it's really not working, and not an error on my part.
I've gone into Entourage Preferences, Sync Services, and asked it to sync with iCal. When I open iCal there are three calendars, "untitled", "unfiled" and "Entourage". It looks like all of the events are on all three calendars as of when I set up the syncing, but nothing has changed since.
Is there some something I need to do to trigger it to send or refresh the new Entourage items over to iCal? Or is that the part I'm reading a lot of posts about being broken?
(From there I can't get iSync to put anything on my Palm Pilot either. But if this first step isn't working, there's no point in trying to get that second part of the process resolved.)

Entourage will then sync your calendar with the Entourage calendar in
iCal (and no other)

It shold all be in the Entourage calendar.

It's syncing withint a minute or so of a modification.
The problem is not there. The problem is that the mechanism is full of
bugs. Some from Apple, some probably from MS.
iCal is notorious to failk to update events in its user interface,
especially if the Brithday calendar is active.
The data is being synced to the central repository where all the
SyncService data lives, but it's just not displayed by Entourage.
Now.... regardless of that, recurring events tend to multiply like
crazy. That's one of the (multiple) other bugs affecting the syncs.
> (From there I can't get iSync to put anything on my Palm Pilot either.
That could be different. Did you make sure everything was set to sync
the Entourage calendar from iCal??
Sync Services is sending all of the information to a central depository of information, which then iCal should be displaying (as well as Entourage and .Mac if I had an account). But it's not displaying a lot of changes that have been made in Entourage, probably since it first synced. And that is just a world of bugs that can't be fixed, at least by me. What a mess!!
Is there any sort of mobile device (phone, PDA, iPhone, anything) that DOES sync DIRECTLY with Entourage? From what I'm reading, they all go through Sync Services, so if that's where the bugs are then something like Missing Sync won't help. Right?
> Is there any sort of mobile device (phone, PDA, iPhone, anything) that
> DOES sync DIRECTLY with Entourage?
Well in theory, with Entourage 2008, SyncServices is the only option.
All other apps used to sync to some sort of device access the
SyncServcie Truth database adn sync from there.
Though there are two alternative possibilities.
Paul Berkowitz's Sync Entourage scripts (you have to run them manually)
and an application called iPDA (that I just read about in this very
group and have never tried myself).
I have an "Entourage" calender in iCal that does push entries to Entourage. Entries in Entourage, do not go back to iCal. I've backed up, restored, turned sync prefs on/off...all to no avail. This system is so buggy. Is there any true answer to clean this up? I've tried Missing Sync (which used to be successful in the past to move things to a Treo and back in) but it now relies on Sync services via iCal and Address book.
OK, so I have had iCal/Entourage/iPhone working just fine and dandy and am running both my wife and my accounts on my machine.
As per an earlier post, the Synch Services "broke" on my wifes account and now while entourage sees her full calendar and contacts, they are not being transmitted to iCal (and therefor not to her iPhone).

After switching to Sync Services in Entourage 2008 and attempting to sync my Palm Pilot using Missing Synch for Palm OS 6.02, began getting fatal error messages from the PDA itself about 2/3 of the way through the synchronization. Apparently a fatal error was written onto the PDA. Repeated "full resets" (erasing the PDA) did not solve the problem. One of the reasons I switched to Entourage 2004 was the shoddy way Apple and Palms synched.
After updating to 10.5.2, Entourage 2008 stopped synchronizing to i Cal altogether and displayed a message Microsoft Synch Services (not Apple) was broken. i finally had to uninstall 2008 from my Mac.
In my case, I found that permissions had changed rom "Read and Write" to "No Access" on some Application Support Services and even preferences folders. These permissions errors are endemic to the 10.5.2 update, according to MacFixIt.
What we, as Microsoft Office 2008 purchasers need are:
1. Some sort of explanation from the MBU - Apple developers are much more likely to talk to them than to us.
2. A direct conduit from Office 2008 to PDA's or at least one that works with third-party software like the Missing Synch (by MarkSpace). The MBU's answer that "Apple's synch services already work so we'll use them" does not work, becayse Apple's Synch Services obviously --don't-- work. The MBU developed them for Entourage 2004 -- please allow Microsoft users to bypass Apple's hodgepodge.
After posting the above, and deleting all Office (12) preferences from my Mac, I reinstalled Office 2008 but did a customization and did NOT include Entourage 2008. I like the new enhancements in Word and Excel enough to keep the rest of Office 2008.
Hopefully, the MBU people and Apple will talk and in a few months, a product update will appear from one or the other that will fix it. Perish the thought that Apple might consider keeping their synchronization incompatible with Entourage to encourage people to use their own PIM software instead.
The Most Valued Professionals indicate there is a problem with Apple's synch services, and they also are correct that this is not a tech support blog. OK.
One other source of aggravation is Mark Space Software: I will have to pay $59.95 to get any response to my online ticket from their tech support people. We cannot blame that problem on Microsoft.
Apple's Sync Services have been a never ending source of frustration to me
and I've given up on it for using with Entourage and my Windows Mobile
phone. I used to use the Missing Sync but it too often would make a complete
hash of my information with duplicates and information being removed
whenever I would synch with my phone. Not worth the aggravation and I just
decided to sync my phone with Outlook running in my virtual machine with
Parallels.
Entourage synching did seem to work among my computers (and not having the
phone in the mix) with 2004 but Entourage was such a dog with Intel machines
I just went back to using the Apple PIM programs (not happily, but at least
they worked and synchronised correctly most of the time).
I had great hopes that Entourage 2008 would work better with
synchronisation, but clearly this hasn't happened, so once again, synch is
turned off. The common equation with all these problems seems to be Apple's
Sync Services and non-Apple applications. I'd love to be able to use
Entourage and my phone together again, but it's not happening yet.
Maybe one day...

MarkSpace software sent a very elaborate fix to remove the two unwanted strings from the Palm Pilot. That problem had nothing to do with Entourage 2008 --- had to do with some orphan Palm conduits that never posed a conflict as long as I was not attempting to use iCal. (never installed Palm software on the new laptop I was synching with -- never was an issue as long as the Entourage 2004 conduit worked. Missing Sync 6 was advertised as not requiring Palm OS.) Too late: the actual Palm Tungsten E died – the bad synching required so many resets that its reset switch (physically) got stuck in the "engaged" position. But it is not directly a Microsoft-caused problem and Mark Space did try to help.
Wound up uninstalling Office 2008 and reinstalling it without Entourage 2008, keeping Entourage 2004 instead. When I replace the Palm Pilot, will do a kosher installation (first Palm OS, then Office 2004>Additional Tools> Entourage 2004 conduit, then Missing Sync 6.02); will continue using Entourage 2004 until or unless Microsoft does its own conduit.
Last shot (at Apple). Leopard is worse than Vista when it comes to BOI (Broken on Installation). This is being posted on a Windows machine with Vista Business, so I know from whence I speak.
I've tried to give Entourage 08 a fair go but on the three occasion where I've had it on for more than a couple of hours, I get an error message from SyncServices saying that's it has to quit and then I loose all my calendars and task items.
I've read on some other threads that this was an oversight on MS behalf and that a fix is on the way.
Any idea if this is actually the case - is there a fix on the way? This problem renders Entourage absolutely useless to me.
