Opportunity
You hit the nail on the head with the scenario where of a spread sheet created months ago or buy someone else. You can't make heads or tails of it and are forever going back and forth trying to figure out what is what.
So how about we borrow the idea of user definable cell names! I think a user should be able to right-click on a cell (or chose "Cell..." from some menu) and define the all the unique formatting etc., of the cell including a cell name! The cell name when set can be visually noted as set through some UI, like the little red mark in the corner that to this day I have no idea what it means, or by simply hovering over the field. Taking it one step further the UI could optionally add the defined name as a text label to the adjacent cell directly to the left, right, top or bottom.
Finally I would like to see a Spreadsheet Structure Report of some kind. Where I can print all these calculations (by sheet) for reference and viewing all at once on paper. The report would show the cell Row/Column (D45), the cell name if available, the format data type (text, number etc.,) and the calculation if there is one.
The totality of al these would allow someone to work through even the most complex spreadsheets and I can see such a feature(s) as a welcome addition to the product that the average Joe like me would use.
