Good news!
This type of re-commitment to the platform is very much appreciated by this Mac user.
I've always been a big fan of Mac Office 2001, X and 2004. 2008 has been disappointing because of the missing features (VBA, complete Exchange support, One Note) and compatibility issues. But at its best, the Mac BU is what we all hope for -- a Mac developer that cares about the platform and is willing to compete for our business.
Thanks for making this commitment. I'm looking forward to the fruits of the expansion.

VSTO, OpenCL, and iPhone Office
I just wanted to say it would be interesting to see if this hiring spree will lead toward an iPhone Office. Personally, I would find this very useful, being able to make quick edits to documents and presentations on the go without dragging around a laptop. I can see how it'll be difficult selecting what features to support, but I think the touch screen interface could lead to some interesting new ways to approach document navigation and creation.
With the recent announcement that VBA is returning to the next Office version, I was wondering if someone could clarify what the relationship between VBA, VSTO, and VSTA is? If VSTO is supposed to be the successor or even a complement, wouldn't it make sense to devote resources to the newer standard rather than going back to VBA, when the last version already tried to wean users off of it? It be great if both VBA and VSTO were both supported, but if it's an either or scenario, I'd be interested to no the differences and rationale behind it.
Also, with features like Grand Central and OpenCL coming to Snow Leopard, I hope they are incorporated as needed into the next Office while you are rewriting things in Cocoa. It might help with the performance problems that seem to crop up in Office.

Re: We're hiring!
@Chris - Yes, we do offer summer internships. It's too late for internships this summer, but we'll be starting to look at candidates for next summer after the fall semester kicks off. You can learn more about internships at Microsoft on the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/college/ip_overview.mspx
Also, check your university's recruiting fairs to see if there will be Microsoft representatives there, so that you can ask more about internships in person.
